Jay Merrick

Jay Merrick is the architecture critic of The Independent, London, and a regular critic and essayist for Architects Journal. He has written on art-related topics for these publications. Jay, whose early life was spent in the Far East and California, has also written for publications including Deutche Bauzeitung, Monument (Australia), Quotidien de l'Art, New Society, and the London Magazine. He has produced central texts in architectural monographs for practices including Grimshaw and Partners, Schmidt Hammer Lassen, Arup Associates, and Wilkinson Eyre. He works as a consultant for architectural practices, some young and small, others larger and more established. Jay has travelled widely to write about architecture, and environmental issues, in Europe, North and South America, Africa, and the Far East. His novel, Horse Latitudes, was published by Fourth Estate in 2000.
